HEATING INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES AND CITIES WITH THE heat of the sun
Today, 49% of total energy consumption goes to heating houses, buildings and factories. This heat is primarily generated using non-renewable resources like coal and oil. Absolicon’s solution makes it possible to generate heat from the sun instead using their world-leading solar collectors.
If Absolicon were to implement its solar collectors in every industrial facility in the world, it would reduce global CO2 emissions by 0.66% of the 40% emissions from heating. This is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of over 3 million homes.
Category
Traditional heating methods rely on coal, oil, and gas, all of which are readily available. However, these solutions also share a weakness: fossil fuels aren’t sustainable because, unlike solar, they can only be used once, and require combustion processes, which emit CO2. Unlike solar collectors, coal, oil, and gas are becoming increasingly expensive, which will only continue to drive up heating costs.
Subcategory
Active solar heating systems use solar energy to heat a fluid, and then transfer the solar heat directly to the interior space or to a storage system.
Absolicon’s solution, a solar collector, is built with a parabolic mirror that focuses the solar light into a black hole in the middle of the mirror, which is protected by glass. These collectors produce heat up to 160 degrees that can then be re-distributed. The heat is stored in hot water tanks, from which 76% of its total energy can be redistributed. One square meter of glazed surface can, in optimal conditions, produce 1000 kWh (equal to driving 5000km in a Tesla S).
Absolicon’s advantage over others in their subcategory is their Solar Keymark certification, and their solution’s ability to follow the sun during the day. Their weakness is that their solution is limited by geography.
